Hey,

I recently went to a comic book store about an hours' drive from my town and saw many of the Archive editions for sale. Pricey as they may be, I'm sure they're worth it. A few years back a friend of mine gave me the Silver Age Green Lantern vol. 2 Archive, I guess since she couldn't find vol. 1. Anyway, my question is if anyone knows of any really great deals I can use to pick up a few of these since right now I can't afford the 50.00 price tag.

I'd rather stay away from ebay right now since:
1.) I just went on a tpb killing spree and I really can't afford to do the same with hc.
2.) It's so much easier not to have to battle it out with other people if locating it is an option.

Any help?

I could provide a list, but I'd really settle for any of them. The ones I guess I want the most are:

-Silver Age Flash volumes
-Silver Age Green Lantern volumes omitting vol. 2
-Silver Age Justice Leauge of America volumes
-Silver Age Aquaman vol. 1
-Silver Age Doom Patrol vol. 1

As I said though, I'd be willing to grab any/all of them if the price was right.

Thanks in advance for helping, or at least taking the time to read, this poor college students' plea for help.

Matt

Hi, Matt,

Welcome to our little group of Archive-aholics. You're not alone!

The easiest, best way to buy archives is amazon.com (or .ca, if you're Canadian). They usually offer them for 30% off, so they only cost $35.00. I say usually because a quick check has revealed that while Silver Age Green Lantern 1 has the discount, Silver Age Flash 1 doesn't. The good news is orders at amazon.com which total at least $25 qualify for free shipping, and you're in the clear.

But wait! There's more!

With a very limited amount of searching on Google, you can usually find a coupon to make your order cost even less. These things tend to be seasonal, with $10 off coupons in abundance around Christmas and $5 off coupons scattered during the rest of the year. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be that many out there now, but I've found some $5 coupons at http://rarecoupons.tripod.com/coupons/id8.html which expire at the end of March. That'll knock your price down to $30.00. You can only use one coupon per order, so you'll have to order twice if you want two archives. But hey, shipping is free anyway, right?

There are some other place like www.overstock.com , but it's really a crapshoot there since their product descriptions leave a lot to be desired. When you consider amazon's free shipping, it's really the best option.

You could also try
http://www.talesofwonder.com

They have a pretty extensive selection, and they do have discounts.

Alldirect.com sells most archives for $30, though it takes them a while to get the more recent volumes. Shipping is free for orders over $100.

Booksamillion.com sells most of its Archives for $33 (after you purchase a $5 membership) with free shipping.

Walmart.com also sells archives, but I haven't used them yet, and I think they charge for shipping.

I can also vouch for great prices and service offered by...

Tales of Wonder and Amazon.com ...

Tales of Wonder has 'em for about $37 and Amazon for 'bout $35 - and that free shipping by Amazon is pretty neat, too.

best...

I know you said you wanted to avoid e-bay currently, but I say just it is worth your time to occasionally check out the "Buy Now" listings for Archives. I recently bought, and have already received, ALL-STAR Vol. 8 for $25.00 plus $2.00 S&H, and AQUAMAN for $35.00 plus $3.00, and BATMAN IN WORLD'S Finest for $30.00 plus $3. So, bargains can be found.

The least I have paid for an Archive was an auction I won as solo bidder for MAD ARCHIVES Vol. 1. That one I got for $18.00 plus P&H.

The best bargain I ever got on E-bay was just the other day when I got Spirt vol 1 and 2 for $50 including S&H. can't wait for them to arrive (and see what all the fuss is about ).
